HB Ortho patients in treatment

Update as at 24th March 2020

As of the 23rd March 2020 the Ministry of Health have advised that all non-essential dental care should be ceased immediately. This means that, for now, all orthodontic appointments are cancelled. We want to keep you and your family safe.

We thought we’d answer a few questions below.

What does this mean for my treatment?
We’re fortunate that orthodontic treatment, as a rule, continues while you’re away from the clinic. You’ll still get a great result, but it may take a little longer. We will contact patients at a later date to see how treatment is progressing.

Elastics: Keep wearing them as instructed.
The teeth will continue to move/straighten. If you have any concerns about where your teeth moving in the wrong direction, please stop your elastics and leave us a message 06 877 1450 or email office@hbortho.co.nz us a photo of your teeth when your back teeth are biting together.

What happens if I run out of elastics or wax?
We have left some attached to our front door. Please only take 2 packets.

What if I have an emergency?
We are only permitted to see patients who have a significant emergency.
Please note that broken brackets will not be replaced.
For any immediate concerns or emergencies please contact office@hbortho.co.nz

General Reminders:

  • Almost all damage is done while eating so please be careful about the types of food you eat and the way in which you eat them.
  • Avoid sticky or hard sweets – these get stuck around the braces, are hard to clean off and they are full of sugar that will lead to marking of the teeth and decay.
  • Keep sweet and carbonated (fizzy) drinks to a minimum because of their very high sugar content. Eg. Coca-cola, Red Bull, V etc.
  • Cut hard food into small pieces (i.e. carrots and apples).
  • Avoid pork crackling, hard toast, lollies, candy canes, nuts or hard biscuits.

If you have any major concerns, please leave us a message 06 877 1450 or email us on office@hbortho.co.nz. We will get back to you within 48 hours.

Please check our website and facebook page for any updates.

Keep safe!
